Short answer: In a frost-free (double-door) fridge, cold air is made in the freezer and blown down to the fridge section by a fan. If the freezer is cold but the fridge is warm, that air isn't getting through. The cause is almost always a failed evaporator fan, a defrost fault that has iced over the coil and air duct, or a stuck damper. It is rarely a gas problem.
How to Tell Which It Is
Open the freezer and press the door switch. You should hear a fan whirr. Silence points to the fan motor.
Look at the freezer's back panel. Thick frost or ice suggests the defrost system has failed and blocked the airflow.
Check the vent between compartments. Food packets or ice blocking it is surprisingly common.
The Defrost Test
Empty the fridge into a cool box, unplug it for 24 hours with the doors open (towels down for meltwater), then switch on. If it cools properly for a few days and then warms again, the defrost heater, sensor or timer has failed. It's a reliable home diagnosis, but the faulty part still needs replacing.
How much does this repair cost?
Typically ₹900 – ₹2,500 for a defrost part or fan motor . Fridge repair charges
Someone said I need gas. Do I?
If the freezer is properly cold, almost certainly not. Get a second opinion.
