Every April, the same story plays out across the city. The AC isn't cooling, someone says "gas is low", the gas is topped up, the AC cools beautifully, and by June it's back to blowing lukewarm air. Next April, repeat.
Air conditioners don't consume refrigerant. It circulates in a sealed loop for the life of the unit. If your AC is low on gas, there is a leak, and refilling without fixing it is money you'll spend again next season. We fix the leak first, then refill. All AC repairs
Signs Your AC Might Be Low on Gas
- Cooling has dropped gradually over weeks or months, not suddenly
- Ice or frost on the copper pipes, especially at the outdoor unit
- The indoor unit drips more than usual (ice melting off the coil)
- A hissing sound near the pipes or indoor unit
- Oily stains around flare joints or pipe connections
- The outdoor unit runs constantly but the room never reaches the set temperature
None of these confirm low gas on their own. Dirty coils, a weak capacitor or a faulty outdoor fan can look similar, and they're cheaper to fix. Our technician checks pressure with gauges before any gas talk. Read: why gas refills need leak repair
Our Leak Repair and Refill Process
1. Measure Pressure
Gauges on the service valve, readings compared with what your AC's refrigerant should show at the current outdoor temperature.
2. Find the Leak
We pressurise with dry nitrogen and check every likely point with soap solution and an electronic detector. The usual culprits:
- Flare joints at the indoor and outdoor units, by far the most common, often from a hasty installation
- Indoor coil, where tiny pinholes form from corrosion
- Pipes rubbing against a wall edge or bracket
- Service valves with worn caps or cores
3. Repair It
Re-flaring and re-tightening, brazing a pipe, or repairing or replacing the coil, depending on what we find.
4. Vacuum
A vacuum pump removes air and moisture from the system. Moisture mixed with refrigerant forms acids that damage the compressor over time.
5. Charge the Correct Gas
Newer ACs mostly use R32, many from the last decade use R410A, and older ones use R22. They can't be mixed. We charge the exact type to the manufacturer's specification, by weight where the full charge is replaced.
6. Test
Pressure, running current and vent temperature checked; the AC should blow air roughly 10–14°C cooler than the room.
Costs and Questions
Indicative charges : leak repair with vacuum and full gas charge ₹2,500 – ₹4,500 for 1–1.5 ton split ACs, ₹3,000 – ₹5,000 for 2 ton, and slightly more for R22 units as supplies tighten. Coil replacement is extra. All AC charges
How long does AC gas last?
If there's no leak, for the life of the AC.
Why is my AC losing gas every year?
The leak was never found and fixed. Ask your technician where the leak was. If he can't tell you, it wasn't repaired.
Can I get just a top-up?
We can top up a slightly undercharged system after confirming there's no active leak, such as after a long pipe extension. We won't top up a leaking system without telling you plainly that the gas will escape again.
How long does the job take?
Two to three hours, plus extra time if the leak is in the indoor coil.
Is it safe?
Yes, when done properly. R32 is mildly flammable, so we use proper tools and ventilation and never braze near a charged system.
