Window ACs have gone out of fashion in new flats, but walk down any older street in Governorpet, Suryaraopet or Moghalrajpuram and you'll still see them humming away in walls and windows. They're tough, simple, and in many cases fifteen years old and still cooling.
If yours has slowed down or stopped, it's very often worth saving. Window ACs have fewer parts than splits, those parts are easy to replace, and a well-repaired window unit can comfortably see out several more summers. All AC repairs
Common Window AC Faults
Running but Not Cooling
Almost always one of three things: a clogged filter and coils (window ACs pull in a lot of street dust), a failed compressor capacitor so only the fan runs, or a refrigerant leak. Thermostats that drift with age are a fourth possibility on older units.
Fan Runs but Compressor Doesn't Start
The compressor's run capacitor or overload protector has failed, or the thermostat isn't calling for cooling. A humming sound with no cooling usually means the capacitor.
Water Dripping Inside the Room
A window AC must tilt slightly backward so condensate drains outside. If someone has levelled it or the frame has shifted, water runs indoors. A blocked drain hole or base pan causes the same thing.
Loud Rattling or Grinding
A loose cabinet panel, a worn fan motor bearing, or the fan blade hitting debris or ice. Also check the mounting frame; a sagging frame lets the whole unit vibrate.
Ice on the Front Coil
Very dirty filters, a failing fan or low gas. Switch it off, let it thaw, and call us.
Not Turning On
Power supply, selector switch, thermostat or wiring. Older window ACs use simple rotary switches that wear out; they're cheap to replace.
Window AC Service
Our window AC service is more thorough than a split service, because the unit comes out of its frame. We slide it out, jet-wash the front and back coils, clean the base pan and drain, clean the fan blades and blower, oil the fan motor where it's designed for it, check capacitors and wiring, and refit it with the correct tilt. Once a year before summer is ideal. AC service details
Repair or Replace?
A capacitor, thermostat, switch or fan motor? Repair, every time. A gas leak on a unit in good condition? Usually worth it. A compressor failure on a window AC over twelve years old? That's when a new inverter AC starts to make sense, because it'll save a lot of electricity as well. We'll give you both options straight. Repair or replace your AC?

Questions
Can window ACs use R22 gas still?
Many older window units were built for R22. Supplies are getting scarcer as India phases it out, so leak repairs on R22 units can cost a little more. We'll tell you the gas type and cost upfront.
Do you repair Voltas, Godrej and Carrier window ACs?
