How We Remove an AC Without Losing the Gas
Pump-Down
With the AC running in cooling mode, we close the liquid valve on the outdoor unit and let the compressor pull all the refrigerant back into the outdoor unit. Then we close the gas valve. The refrigerant is now safely stored, and the indoor unit and pipes can be disconnected without losing it.
Skip this step and the gas escapes, so the AC needs a refill at the new place. That's money wasted and refrigerant vented into the air.
Careful Removal
- Pipes disconnected and the open ends capped immediately to keep dust and moisture out
- Indoor unit lifted off its mounting plate without bending the copper
- Outdoor unit unbolted and lowered safely, with two people for high or tricky positions
- Brackets removed if you want them, and the wall hole sealed on request
- Pipes coiled gently, not folded
Ready for Transport
The units, remote, brackets and pipes are kept together. Keep the outdoor unit upright during the move and don't stack heavy items on it.
Reinstalling at Your New Home
Reinstallation is a full installation: planning the position, fitting brackets, connecting and flaring the pipes, vacuuming the indoor unit and pipes, releasing the stored gas, checking for leaks and testing cooling. The AC is already off the wall, so this is the easiest time to give it a thorough clean. Ask for a service with the reinstallation and we'll include it at a reduced rate.
Questions
Can the old copper pipe be reused?
Often, if it's long enough and undamaged. We'll check it during removal.
Do I need gas after shifting?
Not if we pumped it down properly and the move didn't damage anything. If the pipe run at the new place is much longer, a small top-up may be needed.
Can you shift an AC out of Vijayawada?
We can uninstall and pack it here. For reinstallation outside our area, any qualified technician can do it, and we'll give you a note of the gas status.
How long does it take?
Uninstalling a split AC takes about an hour; reinstallation takes two to three hours.
