The fully automatic top-loader is probably the most common washing machine in Vijayawada homes. It's affordable, it's easy to load without bending, and it usually runs for years without a murmur. Then one day the pulsator just sits there, or the tub fills and drains but never spins, or the lid light blinks and nothing happens.
Good news first: top-loaders fail in fairly predictable ways, parts are widely available, and most repairs are done in a single visit. We fix Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, Godrej, Panasonic, Haier, IFB, Lloyd and every other brand. All washing machine repairs
Top-Load Problems, Symptom by Symptom
Pulsator or Agitator Not Moving
You hear the motor hum but the pulsator at the bottom of the drum doesn't turn. On belt-driven machines, the belt may have slipped or snapped. If the belt is fine, the clutch or gearbox assembly, the part that switches between washing and spinning, is the usual suspect. On direct-drive and inverter models, we test the motor and its sensor.
Tub Fills and Drains but Won't Spin
Top-loaders won't spin with the lid open, so a faulty lid switch or lock is the first check. After that, we look at the drain motor (which also releases the brake on many models), the clutch and the belt. Overloading with heavy bedsheets causes a lot of these calls too.
Water Not Filling, or Filling Very Slowly
Low tap pressure, a clogged inlet mesh or a failed inlet valve. Clean the mesh where the hose joins the machine; if that doesn't help, the valve coil is probably dead. It's one of the cheapest repairs we do.
Water Not Draining
On top-loaders, a lint-choked drain pipe, a jammed drain valve or a faulty drain motor are the usual causes. Full drain troubleshooting guide
Tub Wobbling, Banging or Walking
Worn suspension rods, a machine standing on uneven tiles, or a load bunched on one side. Suspension rods wear gradually, so if the banging has been getting worse over months, that's your answer.
Machine Dead, No Lights
Check the socket with another appliance. If power is fine, a blown fuse on the board, a failed power switch or a damaged PCB is likely, often after a voltage spike or a storm. We test and repair at component level where possible.
Leaking Underneath
A cracked drain pipe, a loose inlet hose or a worn tub seal around the shaft. We run the machine with the back panel open to find the exact leak point.
What You Can Expect From the Visit
Our technician starts with the simplest explanations, because the cheapest fix is always worth ruling out first. He checks the lid switch, inlet mesh and drain before opening the machine, then tests the belt, clutch, motor and board as needed.
You get the quote before work starts. We carry belts, inlet valves, lid switches, drain motors and common clutch assemblies, so most top-load jobs are done in 45 minutes to two hours. A gearbox or board replacement may need a second visit if the part has to be ordered.
Top-Loader Habits That Save You a Repair
- Don't overload: fill to about three-quarters with clothes loose, not packed
- Spread heavy items like jeans and sheets evenly around the pulsator
- Clean the lint filter in the drum after every few washes
- Keep the machine on a firm, level surface
- Use a voltage stabiliser if your area sees frequent dips
Costs and Questions
Typical top-load repairs: inlet valve ₹800 – ₹1,800, belt ₹400 – ₹900, lid switch ₹500 – ₹1,000, clutch assembly ₹1,500 – ₹3,000, drain motor ₹1,000 – ₹2,000, PCB ₹1,500 – ₹6,000 . All washing machine charges
Why does my top-load machine spin only sometimes?
Usually an unbalanced load triggering the safety cut-out, or a lid switch that's beginning to fail and makes contact only intermittently.
Is clutch replacement worth it?
On a machine under eight years old, nearly always. It's a moderate cost and gives the machine years of extra life.
My Whirlpool top-loader shows an error. Can you fix it?
Yes. Whirlpool washing machine repair. We also handle Samsung and Godrej top-loaders daily.
Are you a brand service centre?
No, we're an independent multi-brand repair service.
