Short answer: Before booking a repair, have five things ready: the brand and model number, a clear description (or short video) of the problem, any error code on the display, the appliance's warranty status, and the visit charge and warranty terms of the service you're booking. This lets the technician bring the right parts and fix it in one visit.
The Five Things
- Model number. On a sticker: inside the door of front-load washing machines, the back panel of top-loaders, inside the fridge on a side wall, and the side of an AC's indoor unit.
- The symptom, precisely. "Fills, washes, but won't drain" is far more useful than "not working". A 20-second video is even better.
- Error codes. Write down the exact code or count the blinking lights.
- Warranty. If the appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, call the brand first; it's free.
- Terms. Ask the visit charge, how quotes work and the repair warranty.
Quick Checks That Might Save a Visit
Check the socket and MCB, the water tap (washing machines), the temperature setting (fridges and ACs), and AC filters. A surprising number of "broken" appliances come back to life.
