How to Compare Appliance Repair Charges Before Booking

The cheapest visit charge is not always the cheapest repair. Learn how to compare quotes on labour, parts and warranty so you are not caught out later.

How to Compare Appliance Repair Charges Before Booking

Short answer: Compare repair quotes on four things, not one: the visit charge and whether it's adjusted, the labour charge for the specific repair, whether the part is original or compatible (and its price), and the warranty on both labour and parts. A low visit charge with an inflated part price, a gas refill without leak repair, or no warranty often ends up costing more.

A Fair Comparison Checklist

Ask about Why it matters
Visit charge, and is it adjusted? Some "free" visits recover the cost in parts
Diagnosis before quote? Prevents guesswork replacements
Labour for this exact repair Should be fixed, not by the hour
Original vs compatible part Big price and quality difference
Warranty: how long, what's covered A cheap repair that fails in a month isn't cheap
Leak repair included (for gas jobs)? Refill-only means paying again

Watch Out For

  • Quotes that grow after the machine is opened, without a clear reason
  • "Package" prices that bundle parts you may not need
  • No written bill
