Short answer: Water dripping from an AC's indoor unit almost always means the condensate can't drain away. The usual causes are a drain pipe blocked by algae and dust, a pipe that has lost its downward slope, a dirty coil overflowing the drain tray, or an indoor unit that isn't level. Less often, low gas freezes the coil and the meltwater floods the tray.
Causes, Most Common First
- Blocked drain pipe: algae, dust and insects build up, especially in humid months
- Poor drain slope: a sagging pipe or one that rises before it falls traps water
- Dirty evaporator coil: water drips off unevenly and misses the tray
- Indoor unit tilted the wrong way: often after a hurried installation
- Ice on the coil from low gas or blocked filters, which then melts
What You Can Do Now
Switch the AC off to protect your wall and electrics. Clean the filters. Check the drain pipe outside isn't blocked or submerged. If it keeps dripping, the drain needs flushing and the slope checking, usually a quick, inexpensive fix: ₹300 – ₹600 .
